Watching “CleanFix” — A documentary.

“In this documentary, filmmakers Andrew James and Joshua Ligairi explore the rise and fall of Cleanflicks, a movie rental company that edited offensive material out of Hollywood films to produce unauthorized “clean” versions for its customers.”

In my opinion, Hollywood SHOULD make edited versions of their movies on DVD. It would automatically open up a wider audience, and allow people to watch good movies with their kids, parents, and more.

Karl Slover Dead: ‘Wizard of Oz’ Munchkin Dies at 93 – The Moviefone Blog

Actor Karl Slover, best known for playing a Munchkin in the 1939 classic ‘The Wizard of Oz,’ passed away Tuesday. He was 93. You can see Slover playing the lead trumpet when the Munchkin mayor arrives in the land of Oz. According to the AP, the actor was born Karl Kosiczky in what is now the Czech Republic. He moved to the United States in his late 20s and joined a circus vaudeville group called the Singer Midgets; the group would later be cast as Munchkins. Over the years, Slover has made appearances at ‘Wizard of Oz’ reunions and fan festivals.

Netflix Is Abandoning DVDs, Customers Who Prefer DVDs

When Netflix started up more than 10 years ago, its sales pitch was pretty simple: Hey, subscribe to us, and we’ll mail you DVDs that you can then mail back to us without worrying about any late fees. But as the rental market moves toward online and on-demand models, Netflix’s iconic red envelopes may eventually become as antiquated as VHS tapes. Beefing up their streaming business, Netflix has predicted…

Where The Wild Things Are

I have been anticipating this DVD release ever since the movie came out, because I didn’t see it in the theatre. The boy in the movie really seems to be a brat and an annoying little kid named Max that bites people. I don’t like him. He’s like 11 years old, way old enough to know better.. but whatever. The movie was visually great, and the characters were good…I guess there just wasn’t much to follow — it’s just a story. I usually don’t like to try interpreting a movie, but I guess the message was that Max learned a lesson from the Wild Things, and was able to take that lesson with him back to the real world and hopefully correct his behavior?

All in all, a pretty good movie.

I rate this movie 7/10

Big Fan (movie starring Patton Oswalt)

This movie is NOT really  a comedy, even though Patton Oswalt is in it. Although there are humorous scenes, it is mostly a dark, tense drama. Written and directed by Robert Siegel, this movie is about a big sports fan obsessed with the New York Giants. Also in the movie is Kevin Corrigan and Michael Rappaport, both who usually bring the quality. LOL @ starting the movie off with Patton calling in to a Jim Rome type of show…I am familiar. This is shaping up to be a good movie.

I rate this movie 7.5 out of 10

LOL @ Blockbuster Stores — Don’t Stock TRUE ROMANCE?

Seriously, WTF, no wonder all the Blockbuster stores are closing. Yes, I realize most people just get movies by mail these days, I do too, but sometimes I feel like watching a movie NOW. Whatever, but I stopped into two of my nearby Blockbuster stores, to see if they a copy of True Romance, because I had some extra time, no Netflix movies, and haven’t watched True Romance in several years. Well, neither of the Blockbuster stores stock it. They have plenty of other older titles, but not True Romance.

I’ll say it again, WTF? This is a Quinton Tarantino movie starring Christian Slater, Patricia Arquette, James Gandolfini, Brad Pitt, Christopher Walken, Val Kilmer, Dennis Hopper, Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldman, Michael Rappaport, Chris Penn, Tom Sizemore, Kevin Corrigan, and Bronson Pinchot (friggin BALKI BARTOKOMOUS from Perfect Strangers) .

Look at that list of stars, and tell me why the hell Blockbuster wouldn’t make a point of keeping that movie in stock, other than Tom Sizemore.

The Education Of Charlie Banks

I just got a movie in the mail called The Education of Charlie Banks. When I saw that Fred Durst was the director of the movie, I was skeptical, but I have to admit, it was a damn good movie, and Fred did a great job of making the film. Here is what NETFLIX says about the movie:

Years after Charlie (Jesse Eisenberg) fingers Mick (Jason Ritter) for a brutal assault, Mick shows up at Charlie’s university and insinuates himself into college life. As Mick audits classes, sleeps with Charlie’s dream girl and ponders how his life might have been different, Charlie anxiously wonders whether Mick knows he ratted him out. Limp Bizkit front man Fred Durst’s directorial debut, this powerful drama co-stars Chris Marquette.

Danny Trejo = Badass.

danny_trejoYou know who Danny Trejo is. You might not know the name, but you’ve seen him in like every movie, ever. Films such as Blood In, Blood Out and ConAir, Dusk Till Dawn and probably 500 other movies.

I just watched a great documentary called Champion: The True Story of Danny Trejo (Rent movies from Netflix!). You should check it out for some crazy stories from Danny Trejo himself.

Danny Trejo is a legit badass. He’s been in nearly every prison in California for crimes like armed robbery and assault, and he is a former drug addict. He’s not a very tall guy, but was a prison boxing champion (lightweight and welterweight). Fortunately he was able to turn his criminal life around and build a successful acting career. Of course, he generally plays a thuggish character because he looks like a mean dude, but they guy is really likeable and seems like a good guy who is very happy to be away from his past life.

This Movie Clip, Is Why Gary Busey Is Awesome.

Gary Busey vs. a warehouse full of bad guys, including Danny Trejo, and all awesomeness happens. I’m not sure exactly what Gary is doing at :41 seconds into the clip, and I think he says “Butthorn” at one point. That just adds to the greatness that is Gary Busey. This was all of course, before Celebrity Rehab, where he is still being awesome.

Diminished Capacity

I admit, I liked this movie simply because of some of the subject matter. Ok, maybe not the main plot of the movie, which is about a guy (Matthew Broderick) who gets amnesia after getting hit on the head. He decides to go on a road trip with his uncle (Alan Alda) who has Alzheimers, and and ex-girlfriend (Virginia Madsen). The main reason I rented the movie however, is because the story centers around an rare baseball card and a trip to a high profile sports memorabilia show in an attempt to sell it. I was a major sports card nerd back in the day, circa late 1980′s and early 1990′s, and the movie does a pretty damn good job of accurately portraying the hobby, although in an exaggerated and humorous way.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

I watched the newest Indiana Jones movie this weekend on DVD. Not long after it started, I wondered if I would enjoy the movie, because of the slightly ridiculous scene where he throws the gunpowder in the air and it travels to a magnet all the way across the room. Nonsense. However, I still sat back and kept watching the movie, and I’m glad I did. It was actually pretty damn good. I would have to say it’s probably as good as the previous Indiana Jones films, although it’s been a few years since I watched them. I’ll probably watch them again sometime soon.

M. Night Shyamalan’s “The Happening”

I got The Happening DVD in the mail, and was immediately looking forward to watching it. I’ve been a fan of most of M. Night Shyamalan’s films, and figured this one would be no different. Right now, I’m not real sure what I think of it. I know I enjoyed watching the movie while I was watching it, so that’s probably all that matters. Plus Zooey Deschanel was in it, so that is awesome. I’m definitely still a fan of Shyamalan’s movies, and will continue to see whatever movies he makes. This movie was promoted as being the “first R-Rated film” from M. Night Shyamalan.

From Netflix:

In this thriller from M. Night Shyamalan, a deadly airborne virus threatens to wipe out the northeastern United States. Fleeing from contaminated cities into the remote countryside, science teacher Elliott Moore (Mark Wahlberg) and his wife, Alma (Zooey Deschanel), fight to survive and discover the truth: is it terrorism, the accidental release of some toxic military bio weapon, or something even more terrifying? John Leguizamo and Betty Buckley co-star.

Just Add Water

Just Add Water

What a crazy ass movie. It’s about a town called Trona, California. The town is ran by some kid named Dirk, who bought up all the property real cheap after the town was declared a toxic waste dump. The DVD box describes it as “a dead-end desert town for people with dead-end lives.”

The movie stars Danny DeVito, Jonah Hill (Superbad), Dylan Walsh, Brad Hunt, Tracy Middendorf, and Justin Long.

The movie is hilarious if you have a strange sense of humor.

Dance Movies Are Stupid.

Seriously, is there anything more stupid than these damn dance movies I see on the shelf at Blockbuster? They’ve got one now called “How She Move” — the title itself should clue you in to the idiocy of the movie.

Even worse, you have a movie called “You Got Served.” What the hell? Is this movie about dance fighting? ooooooh. YOU GOT SERVED, SUCKA. I just outdanced yo ass. It’s one thing if a movie is supposed to be humorous, but these damn movies are meant to be taken seriously. I think these street dance crews are meant to be “hard”.

Dance movies are stupid, did I already say that? Footloose, Flashdance, — all stupid, and I can confidently say this even though I’ve never seen any of them.

The only good dance movies ever were Breakin, Breakin 2: Electric Boogaloo, Tap, and Dirty Dancing.

On The Menu For Tonight: 10,000 B.C.

When this movie came out, I sort of expected it to suck (and it still might — I haven’t watched it yet). However, the DVD cover shows a caveman about to fight a giant Sabretooth tiger, so that should make any movie worth watching in my opinion. Also, I’m really going to try and start blogging about more things I watch. Especially if it involves cavemen fighting prehistoric animals.

NUMB

Starring Matthew Perry, Kevin Pollak, Lynn Collins. A good movie, not great. Matthew Perry stars as a dude who is having trouble with his head, and lucks out to find a hot chick who will put up with him. Touted as a “medicated love story.” Overall, a decent movie. From Blockbuster.com:

A man who is suddenly without feelings is motivated by a love he isn’t quite sure is there in this offbeat independent comedy. Hudson (Matthew Perry) is a screenwriter who has enjoyed a modest success in Hollywood, but one day he suddenly and inexplicably sinks into a strange funk — he feels strangely removed from the world around him, as if reality has slipped away and he can’t physically or emotionally feel his surroundings. Hudson’s writing partner Tom (Kevin Pollock) is more than a bit disturbed by the sudden change in Hudson’s demeanor, and on his advice he begins seeing the first of several psychiatrists, most of whom prescribe a dizzying variety of drugs, except for Dr. Blaine (Mary Steenburgen), who is turned on by Hudson’s condition and ends up having an affair with him. As Hudson seems to be running out of ways to reconnect with himself, he meets Sarah (Lynn Collins), a beautiful woman who is quite taken with him and decides to introduce him to as many positive and compelling experiences as possible. The first feature-length directorial project for screenwriter Harris Goldberg, Numb received its North American premiere at the 2007 Tribeca Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Be Kind Rewind (Jack Black, Mos Def)

I just watched a strange movie called Be Kind Rewind, starring Jack Black and Mos Def. I guess it was a pretty good movie. They play a couple of dumbasses who attempt to save a local video store where they work after their stock of movies are oddly erased. The movie was written by Michael Gondry (Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind).

The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford

Wow, I really really enjoyed this movie. I had never even heard of the movie until I saw it on Blockbuster.com. Was this film released in theatres? The movie is told from Bob Ford’s side of the story. The Assassination  of Jesse James features a great cast of actors, including Brad Pitt as Jesse James, and Casey Affleck as Bob Ford. Other actors in the movie include Mary-Louise Parker, Sam Shepard, Sam Rockwell, and the beautiful Zooey Deschanel. I’m not sure how historically accurate the movie is, but it was a great film to watch. The back of the DVD box says:

Everyone in 1880s America knows Jesse James. he’s the nation’s most notorious criminal, hunted by the law in 10 states. He’s also the land’s greatest hero, lauded as a Robin Hood by the public. Robert Ford? No one knows him. Not yet. But the ambitious 19-year-old aims to change that. He’ll befriend Jesse, ride with his gang, and if that doesn’t bring Ford fame, he’ll find a deadlier way.

Friendship becomes rivalry and the quest for fame becomes obsession in this virile epic produced in part by Ridley Scott and featuring gripping portrayals by Bradd Pitt (winner of the Venice Film Festival Best Actor Award) as Jesse and Casey affleck as the youth drawn closer to his goal…and farther from his own humanity.

The Writers Strike Appears To Be Over

I guess I’m glad, but I honestly haven’t missed anything too much. Maybe The Office, and some of the Late Night shows, but they’ve been back with new episodes for awhile already. Now they can get busy writing more episodes of LOST, as I was somewhat concerned they would run out of written shows and make us wait even longer for new episodes.
